Why 1u2hp?

I always knew I wanted to start out making these tiny "gap filler" 1u modules. I love 1u modular, but I don't have very much of it yet - certainly not enough to fill all my currently available 1u row space! Even when limiting the 1u modules I own to a single rack, I found I would almost always end up with an unavoidable gap somewhere in the row. Just a few hp wide, but most 1u modules available as of writing start at around 6hp for anything with much use. I decided I would change that.

So, I got to work developing my 1u2hp platform of modules. These would be intended to help fill these small 1u gaps with useful utilities. I started out with Noise, which went through several revisions to get to the point it's at now. Atten was close to follow - a simple, passive attenuator. Tiny, tunable, great for setting a fixed reduction in signal before racking. Much more recently, I've added Rect (rectify) and Invert to the lineup - these two provide simple but very powerful patching utilities in exactly as much space as they required. I'll go a bit more into detail on these another day.

Surely there must be more utilities that can be squeezed into one input and one output jack, or maybe two outputs! These four will have to do for now, but I will surely be continuing to develop more of these tiny utilities as the ideas arise. Maybe a whole line of 1u2hp Noises with different flavors of noise? Maybe a tunable DC offset! If you have any other ideas for tiny modules like this you'd like to see, please get in touch! That's all for now - next time, let's dive a bit deeper into Noise.
